Tribute

George D. Michalopoulos, age 96, longtime Lawrence, MA resident, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 13, 2020. He was the husband of the late Clara (Galluzzo) Michalopoulos, sharing sixty wonderful years in marriage.

Born and raised in Lowell, MA, George was a graduate from Lowell High School in 1942 and attended Coyne Electrical School in Newton, MA. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during WWII, until his honorable discharge in 1946. A focused hard worker, George returned home to the Lowell area and enjoyed a long career with Bolta Co., a division of General Tire, where he was responsible for final inspections from 1951 until his retirement.

George settled in Lawrence, married his sweetheart, Clara, and prepared their new home for their family. The couple devoted much time to make sure their home was welcoming to all, especially for their children’s friends to always feel welcome. George’s entire life centered on his deep love for his family and his church, always making sure that the latter was present in his family life.

A parishioner of Holy Rosary parish, George served as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, was former president of Presidium in Holy Rosary Parish, and volunteered in the capacity of Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister for the sick at Lawrence General Hospital. He was also a former president of the Merrimack Valley Curia, the local governing body of the Legion of Mary.

George was predeceased by his Daughter Kathleen Bull and his siblings, Angelique DeBelis of Nashua, NH, Mary Rodriguez of Merrimack, NH, Anna Psiras of Chelmsford, MA, and Sophia Cox of Nashua, NH.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Daniel Michalopoulos and his wife Susan of Exeter, CA, Patricia Tran and her husband Joseph of Spring, TX, James J. Michalopoulos and his wife Linda of Hadley, MA, Anna Maria Hoffman and her husband Marc of Methuen, MA, Dr. Charles Michalopoulos and his wife Laura of San Francisco, CA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral mass being celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 19, 2020, at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex Street, Lawrence. Interment will follow in St. Mary – Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to Corpus Christi Parish, 35 Essex Street, Lawrence, MA 01840.
