Genoveffa (Polito) Nicoletti, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2019 at home, with her loving family by her side. In May, she would have been 101 years old. Genoveffa was born in Roccamonfina, Italy, and was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Vincenza (Deluca) Polito.
She was raised and educated in Italy. She met her husband, the late Luigi Nicoletti while working with her sister at her family’s restaurant in Italy. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and especially for all the feasts in Italy. In 1962 Genoveffa and Luigi came to this country and settled in Lawrence. Genoveffa worked for many years as a seamstress for Mighty Mac in the Lawrence mills. She enjoyed her vegetable garden and many flowers at her Methuen home. She loved to spend time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she has touched throughout the years.
Genoveffa was predeceased by her loving husband, Luigi Nicoletti; son, John Nicoletti; son-in-law, Tomas Mercuri; and her siblings, Aquilino, Giacinto, Ippolito, Vincenzo, and Rosa.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Mercuri of Methuen; daughter-in-law, Josephine Nicoletti of Florida; six grandchildren, Rosemary Dickinson and her husband, Scott of Methuen, Dr. James Mercuri and his wife, Peggy of New York, Jean Nicoletti Butler and husband, Tristan of Middleton, John Nicoletti and his wife, Nirisa of Haverhill, Patricia Hebert and her husband, Thomas of Bradford, and Norma Nicoletti of Florida. She also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren as well as extended family in Italy.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Her mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 9:00 AM at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack Street in Methuen. Burial will follow her services at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
