Genevieve I. Gangi

Genevieve I. (Ardito) Gangi, 97, of Haverhill, formerly of Lawrence, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House with her loving family by her side. Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Rose (Lovallo) Ardito.

Mrs. Gangi was a graduate of Lawrence High School and McIntosh Business School.  She and her husband owned and operated Gangi’s Meat Market in Lawrence for many years.  She was an active member of Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church and a member of St. Rita’s Sodality.  She was also a member of the Greater Lawrence Italian Women's Club, and Sons of Italy Ladies Lodge #2026.  She enjoyed candlepin bowling and bowled in area leagues into her 90s.  She loved to travel and spend time with her family at their Salisbury Beach cottage.  Mrs. Gangi also donated many hours helping and volunteering with local charities.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lawrence General Hospital, Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, Hannah-Dustin Nursing Home, and Merrimack Valley Hospice for the exceptional care shown to their mother.

Mrs. Gangi was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Philip M. (Duffy) Gangi; her sons, Philip, Jr. and Domenic Gangi; and her siblings, Donato, Adele, Daniel and Michael Ardito, Antoinette Pitocchelli, and Helen Cate.

She is survived by her children, Josephine Napolitano and her husband William of Methuen, Rosemary Murphy of Andover, and Debbie Gangi (with whom she resided) of Haverhill; daughter-in-law, Rose Decie of Newburyport; sister-in-law, Marie Ardito of Burlington, 6 grandchildren (Carri, Beth Ann, Brian, Michael, Joseph, and Caitlin), 14 great-grandchildren (Emily, Madison, Cecilia, Natalie, Thomas, Samantha, Amber, Maia, William, Joseph, Kaylee, Ronan, Ethan, and Graycen), and many nieces and nephews that she adored.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen.  Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex Street in Lawrence.  The family requests that those attending the funeral mass to please go directly to the church.  Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex Street, Lawrence, MA  01840.  For directions or to send condolences, please visit www.cataudellafh.com.
