February 28, 1926 ~ May 2, 2019 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

Gabrielle "Gaye" (Beland) Bergeron, 93, a resident at RiverWoods at Exeter, NH for the past eleven years passed peacefully on May 2, 2019, after a short illness, in the company of family and friends.

Born in Lowell, MA on February 28, 1926, Gaye was the daughter of the late Adelard "Del" and Marie Anne (Duval) Beland and was the last survivor of seven siblings. She lived with her husband, the late Roger Bergeron, in Salem, NH for almost fifty years.

Mrs. Bergeron grew up and was educated in Lowell. She was trained as a seamstress and during WWII worked in a parachute factory sewing parachutes in support of our troops. In 1964, she made history by being the first person to survive for more than a year following experimental open heart surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.

"Gaye" had a special sense for stylish clothing, which she used for many years working in Bridal Salons helping brides select their perfect dress and then providing them with expert alterations. She loved being a part of the happiest times in the lives of young people.

After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Bergeron spent many winters in Stuart, FL. She enjoyed life with many good friends, was a member of the Friends of Parkland Hospital, and belonged to the Salem and the Methuen Senior Centers, where she was active in card playing, Scrabble, and shuffleboard. She also loved music and dancing.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Bergeron) Sutton and her husband Tom of York, ME; her son, Mark Trubey and his wife Michelle of North Chelmsford, MA; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Street in Methuen.
