Welcome to the memorial page for

Francine T. Pickles

November 21, 1955 ~ December 4, 2017 (age 62) 62 Years Old
Francine T. (Costa) Pickles passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017 surrounded by her adoring family, having waged a courageous four-year battle against peritoneal mesothelioma.

Born on November 21, 1955 in Lawrence to James and Lucy (Zangri) Costa, Francine spent her formative years in Methuen and attended Holy Rosary Grammar School in Lawrence, St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence, Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, and the former Lowell State, earning her degree in psychology. She worked for the Lawrence Head Start Program as a pre-kindergarten teacher. All of the students loved “Miss Francine.” Upon getting married, she stopped teaching to raise her own family. She enjoyed nothing more than managing the house, raising her children, and eventually caring for her parents. She was active in her children’s schooling, serving on the Parent Guilds and volunteering her time at St. Michael School and Presentation of Mary Academy. She returned to the workforce in the year 2000 as an assistant to her brother at Costa-Eagle Broadcasting.

Fran loved playing the lottery daily, and never met a card game in which she didn’t want to participate. She routinely went to Foxwoods with her family where she loved playing slot machines and saw hundreds of concerts and live shows (listening to music was another of Fran’s hobbies). Fran held Salisbury Beach dear to her, visiting whenever she had the chance. Anyone who knew Fran also know that she loved to shop, especially with her daughter. Most recently, Fran took up candlepin bowling, an activity she shared in with her husband, children and friends. Fran loved opening up her home and entertaining friends and families... and the occasional card game. She was a remarkable cook, recreating all her mother’s recipes. Fran will be remembered for her generous spirit, her sense of humor, and love of her family. She was loved by all who met her.

She is survived by her loving husband of thirty-four years, David H. Pickles Jr., and her devoted children, Jaime-Lyn and David III, all of North Andover. She is also survived by her brother, Patrick Costa and his wife Sally Ann of Rye Beach, NH; her dear cousin, Marie Barbagallo and her husband Alfio of Methuen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Connie Pickles of Lawrence; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by dear friends, Charlotte Mariano-Zangri of Palm Harbor, FL, who has been her best friend since they were five-years old, and Anita Rozzi-Fanale of Brentwood, NH. Their love and support for Fran and the family has been unparalleled. Fran was recently predeceased by her little friend and companion, her Boston Terrier, Bella.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey William Clark and LaNetta Giacona, NP at Mass General Hospital for their hard work and dedication. The family would also like to thank the entire staff at the Meadows for their compassion and care.
