Eugenia “Virginia” (Sgouveakos) Karko, 74, of Methuen passed away December 27, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Born in Demonia Laconia, Greece, she was the daughter of the late George and Politimi Sgouveakos.
Raised and educated in Greece, Virginia immigrated to Lawrence in 1967 and worked for Grieco Brothers. She then met the love of her life Tony and enjoyed forty years of marriage. She and her husband owned and operated Tony’s Liquor Store on Newbury Street in Lawrence for thirty-eight years.
Virginia enjoyed gardening and traveling. She was a member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Andover and the Daughters of Penelope. Family and friends were most important to her as she would treat all her nieces and nephews as if they were her children. Everyone always welcomed her to their home with open arms. She loved all her sisters, brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Virginia was predeceased by her siblings, Marika Perdicogianis, Matina Iraclidis, Chrysanthos Sgouveakos, and Stavroula Lahana.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Antoine “Tony” Karko; sister, Dimitra Kelekis of North Andover; brother, Dimitrios Sgouveakos and his wife Maria of Maryland; brother-in-law, Ibrahim Karko of Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Renee and Josephine Karko both of Lawrence and Madelin Kawam and her husband John of Methuen. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and friends and extended family members.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 71 Chandler Road in Andover. Burial will be in the United Lebanese Cemetery in Andover. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dana Farber or Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
