Elsie Rosa Nieves was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on November 3, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Juan Francisco Rosa and Felicita Velez.
Elsie came with her mother and siblings to Brooklyn, NY in 1943. In 1953, at the age of 18, she wed Julio Nieves and their fifty-two year marriage lasted until he passed. They had six children together and three children from Julio's former marriage.
Elsie worked since the age of 18 as a secretary and became a seamstress at a garment factory. She diligently worked for forty years until she became ill and moved to Massachusetts in 1984.
It was then that she answered the Lord's calling and became active in her church and the community. She was a member of Cristo Libertador. Her health began to rapidly decline in early 1994 and the Lord called her home on August 27, 2017 at High Point Hospice House in Haverhill.
She leaves behind Ada Marquez of Fort Meyers, FL; Celia Doval (deceased) of Bridgeport, CT; Julio C. Nieves, Jr. of Queens, NY; Angel L. Nieves of Methuen; Ivan Nieves of Lakeland, FL; Dagoberto Nieves of Lowell, MA; Francisco Nieves of Lawrence; Ricardo and Wanda Nieves of Middlesex, NC; Leticia and Jorge Medina of Lawrence; 38 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence.
