Elizabeth R. “Betty” (Moreau) Manzi, age 93, a longtime Methuen resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Methuen, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Michael Manzi, Jr., with whom she shared sixty-eight years of marriage.
Born and raised in Haverhill, MA, the youngest of three children of Mark Louis and Gertrude (Carpentier) Moreau, Betty graduated from Haverhill High School. In 1952, she married Michael and soon after they settled in Lawrence and later Methuen, where they made a loving home for their family.
Betty found her purpose when she became a mother. She raised five children and centered her life around them. She was loving, nurturing, strong, steadfast, funny, and fearless. She listened. She always did the right thing and taught her children to do the same. All her children were her favorites. Her fifteen grandchildren, who called her “Mum” adored her. They loved going to Mum’s house for macaroni, chicken soup, sweets, chewing gum and lots of love and attention. And when they grew up and had children of their own, they brought their children to see her for a dose of Mum love.
When Betty wasn’t busy taking care of her family, she enjoyed cooking and baking, and was an excellent seamstress. She had a passion for travel that began when she drove across the US and toured Europe with her beloved sister. Later, she and Michael traveled throughout the US and Europe. A homebody at heart, she was always happy to be back home after a trip.
Betty was predeceased by her brother, Forrest Moreau and her great-grandson, Christos.
She is survived by her children, Connie Manzi and her husband Bob Finch of West Roxbury, Attorney Michael Manzi, III and his wife Jo-Ann of Haverhill, Lea Manzi and her husband Paul Lindholm of Methuen, Mark Manzi and his wife Ruth of Methuen, Elizabeth “Betsy” Rouleau and her husband Dave of Haverhill; grandchildren, Lea, Mark, Sera, Michele, Michael, Lindsay, Ruthie, Michael, IV, Nicole, Brianna, Sonny, Victoria, David, Adam, and Lukas; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Constance Hosford; sister-in-law, Anna Tulley; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services were held privately with the assistance of Cataudella Funeral Home in Methuen. The family looks forward to celebrating Betty’s life when everyone can get together safely.
