Elizabeth M. Bruno
May 30, 1928 ~ July 26, 2020 (age 92) 92 Years Old
Elizabeth M. "Betty" (DeAngelis) Bruno of Methuen, MA, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Achille and Concetta (Napolitano) DeAngelis.
Betty was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1946. After graduation she worked at Grieco Brothers in Lawrence, and was an administrative assistant at the Lawrence Credit Union. It was during this time that while bowling in a league at Jackson Bowladrome she met the love of her life, Henry. They were married in 1960 and built a home in the Pleasant Valley section of Methuen where Betty became a full time mother and homemaker. Even after Henry's passing in 2015, Betty remained independent, living in her home, cooking, cleaning, and having friends and family over for a cup of coffee, right up until four weeks ago.
She was an accomplished seamstress and in her stylish single days made many of her own clothes. For over 30 years she presided over "Mrs. B's Sew and Sew's," a weekly gathering of the girls, for sewing, coffee, and gossip, where Betty was affectionately known as "Teach".
Betty and Henry were fortunate to have taken many nice trips over the years, to Florida, Las Vegas, and The Villa Roma among other places. In her golden years she enjoyed trips to the casino, her daily phone talks with her sister, watching the daily mass on TV, lunch with the girls, and Sunday morning walks on the beach. Most of all she cherished her time with Henry, Michael, and all her family. She was always there for them and would gladly lend an ear and offer loving advice to anyone in the family who needed to talk.
Betty was a dedicated mother, a devoted wife, and a friend to all. Her beautiful smile and her gentle warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Henry G. Bruno with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage; her sister, Margaret Nicolosi; her nephew, Joseph Rigoli,; and many aunts, uncles, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her son, Michael H. Bruno of Andover; her nieces, Jo Ann Ouellette and husband Ronald, Kathy DeGruttola and husband Brian, Connie Nicolosi and fiancee John Ouellette, Gina Lister and husband Scott, and Angela Roeger and husband Tim. She also leaves many beloved cousins, great nieces and nephews, and five great-great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday August 3, 2020 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St. Methuen. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Monday at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack Street in Methuen. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital at stjude.org or Catholic Television at catholictv.org.
