Welcome to the memorial page for

Edward J. Haddad

October 4, 1919 ~ July 29, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Edward “Eddie” Haddad, 97, a lifelong resident of Methuen passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at his home at Methuen Village, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Methuen, he graduated from Searles High School in 1937. After graduation he entered the Army Air Corp and joined forces stationed in Australia during World War II. Mr. Haddad was always very proud of his service as an aircraft maintenance technician for our fighting forces in the South Pacific, a position he served in for the duration of the war.

Upon his return from overseas, he entered the printing trade and became a skilled linotype operator. He worked as a typesetter for the Lowell Sun, Manchester Union Leader, and thereafter at the Lawrence Eagle Tribune. He retired from the Eagle Tribune in 1985, at which time he worked for Coco, Early & Associates. During his time there he made many visits to the Registry of Deeds, various town halls, and fire departments to assist the company’s real estate agents in procuring documents to help them do their jobs. He would often talk about how much fun he had working there and how much he loved the interactions he had with the agents and public in the various towns.

An avid Boson sports fan, his off hours were often spent watching the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox, sometimes cheering for two different teams on two television sets at the same time. He was also an accomplished gardener who always produced bumper crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, and other summer vegetables. Workers at various public departments were always glad to see him, but especially in the summer because his visits often involved getting bag of tomatoes from his garden. For the past five years he has been a resident of Methuen Village, where he was famous for this pleasant demeanor and an endless supply of one-liners and wisecracks.

Mr. Haddad was predeceased by his wife of fifty-eight years, Marion (Hajjar) Haddad. He is survived by his three daughters who were the pride of his life, Janet Kelloway and her husband Gary of Alton Bay, NH, Jane Marshall and her husband Wayne of Haverhill, and Linda Early and her husband Steve of Methuen; five grandchildren, Brad Kelloway of Salem, NH, Glen Kelloway of North Andover, Douglas Early of Hampstead, NH, Jennifer Plourde of Salem, NH, and Tim Early of Methuen. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at St. George Orthodox Church, 8 Lowell St., Lawrence. Burial will follow at United Lebanese Cemetery, Lawrence.
