Edward T. DeVito, Jr.
February 20, 1951 ~ October 1, 2021 (age 70) 70 Years Old
Edward T. DeVito, Jr., 70, of Haverhill, MA, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, October 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Elaine D. (Girouard) DeVito and loving father to Jake E. DeVito.
Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, Edward was the son of the late Eva Rita (Viti) and Edward T. DeVito, Sr. Known to family and friends as Eddie, he was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1969. A Vietnam War veteran, he was honorably discharged in 1971 from the United States Navy. Upon his discharge, he returned to the Lawrence area and entered into the civilian work force. Dedicating a career to the Department of Transitional Assistance, Edward retired after 34 years of compassionate service to others and fulfilled his true calling of being a stay-at-home dad.
Eddie first met his true love and soul mate, Elaine, in 1990 and the couple married in 1992. As they began their married life together, they settled in Haverhill, MA, where they continued to reside. Eddie was a highly skilled athlete and loved to compete. For many years, he played wallyball and handball at the YMCA and was a great second baseman for Chris’ Ace of Club fast pitch softball. Following his father’s footsteps, he was an avid golfer, playing many rounds at Merrimack Valley Golf Club and enjoyed the challenges of playing golf on different courses near and far. Eddie had a strong passion for helping people and brought happiness to all of those around him. His undying love for his family and close friends was just one of his many admirable qualities.
In addition to his wife, Elaine, Eddie will be greatly missed by his son, Jake DeVito of Haverhill, MA and extended family members, including Christopher Loriot of Mansfield, MA, Mary, David, and Jennifer Girouard of Haverhill, MA, Anne Marie and Joseph Cerami of Methuen, MA, Arthur and Picky Girouard of Mansfield, TX, Claire and Richard Lewis of Lyman, NH, Alice Girouard of Amesbury, Emilie and Bruce Donnelly of Jacksonville, FL, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Edward DeVito, donations may be made to AMVETS Post 147, 576 Primrose Street, Haverhill, MA 01830, to support veterans, their families and survivors.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation hours on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, between the hours of 4:00-7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen, MA.
