Tribute

Edgar A. Mosesian, 93, of Bradford, MA, unexpectedly passed away from COVID-19 on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Edgar expressed himself in so many ways through his poetry, sharing of his life experiences as a teacher, a counselor, recounting the stories of his Armenian heritage, faith and spirituality.

He was born in Haverhill on November 19, 1928, the son of Armenian Genocide survivors Yeghia (Edgar) and Vartouhie (Stepanian) Movsesian.

Edgar attended Haverhill Public Schools and graduated from Governor Dummer (Governors) Academy in 1947, then went on to graduate from Boston University in 1951, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Government. During his time in school, he enjoyed singing, wrestling, and tennis.

While partnering with his father, Edgar served as the assistant manager of the E & M Fabric Company, Haverhill which made military textiles such as cartridge and utility belts from 1951-1952.

During the Korean War, Edgar served in the US Army Corps of Engineers (SCARWAF) as Troop Information and Education Leader, Supply Specialist, and Base Chapel Choir Director primarily in France by way of Germany from 1952-1954.

Edgar graduated from University Chicago Booth School of Business in 1956 with his Master’s in Business Administration on the GI Bill.

He married 1960, had two children and divorced in 1975. During this time, he earned a Professional Diploma from the University of Connecticut School of Education in Guidance and Counseling in 1962. He served as the first president and two-term delegate of the Phi Delta Kappa Society. He then taught high school English, American History, Geography and moved into his ultimate field, guidance counseling.

At the age of 70, he earned a master’s degree from Salem State College in Marriage and Family Counseling, which enabled him to complete his mission in life of educating and counseling young people and families.

Edgar cultivated his love of music to become an accomplished classical violinist and singer. He played with the Brown University Orchestra and Rhode Island Community College Orchestras. Edgar enjoyed singing including operettas in the Bradford College Chorale and Merrimack Valley Chorale. His favorite was singing Handel's Messiah at Philips Academy each Christmas.

Retirement included going to the beach, bird watching, and tending to the garden.  Traveling to his ancestral homeland Armenia and serving as Commander at the Knights of Vartan Arakadz Lodge # 35 in Merrimack Valley.  Choir member and parish council chairman at The Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Pointe.  He spoke at the dedication of the Haverhill Shoe Workers’ Memorial Plaza and showcased photos of his father’s shoe factory, The Dainty Maid, 144 Essex St. Edgar also enjoyed coordinating Haverhill’s 375th anniversary celebration as a volunteer member of the Haverhill Historical Commission in 2015. 

Edgar is predeceased by sister, Margaret (Movsesian) Kazarosian of Haverhill; companion of thirty-eight years, Beverly J. Hedison of Chelmsford; and closest friend, Jacques Guiguizian of Haverhill. 

Edgar leaves behind daughter Janice Young of Haverhill, husband Gary, their daughter Danielle, and his son Andrew Mosesian. Edgar also leaves behind his sister’s family, dear cousins, their children and families, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Pointe, 1280 Boston Road, Haverhill. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Masks are required. A private burial will be held at a later date.
