July 15, 1922 ~ September 5, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years OldShare Tribute:
Chien Chan Yeh, 94 years of age, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2017.
Chan was born in Shunde, in Guangdong province, China. In 1937, during the second Sino-Japanese war, Chan and her four younger siblings traveled by boat with their mother to Saigon, Vietnam, to reunite with her father, who worked there at the time.
Chan officially started her education at the local elementary school at the age of 13. Being a late bloomer, she quickly caught up and moved up to Yat-Sen Middle school, run by her uncle, and at the same time, joined the school basketball team. She started teaching after graduation and was a first grade teacher until the time she got married and her first child was born.
Chan was a devoted wife and mother, who raised six children while helping her husband managing his lumber store and doing bookkeeping. She was an avid home cook and was skilled in needlework, especially in embroidery, knitting and sewing, all of which were self-taught. As the oldest sibling, her younger siblings remember her as the big sister who always took very care of them. She was an outgoing and sociable person, loved traveling and enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren and friends. She was warm, kind-hearted and always very supportive. She was well loved by family, friends and all who knew her. She will be sorely missed.
Chan is survived by her six children, Wei Lan, Chen Kuo, Ting Kuo, Chang Kuo, Chin Lan and Pei Lan; eight grandchildren, Edward, Will, Jonathan, Rebecca, Justin, Cassidy, Clarence and Jaden; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Oliver.
