A little piece of heaven left us when Carmen Neldy Del Rosario was born into eternal life on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Carmen was born on January 1, 1943, in Corozal, Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of Alfredo Maldonado and Crucita Trinidad.
Carmen is survived by her loving family who includes daughters, Marinell and husband Carlos, Maricruz, who cared for her until her last breath, and son, Rolando and wife Pamela. In addition, she is survived by ten grandchildren, Luis, Amanda, Greydy, Gabriella, Marcos, Amelia, Catalina, Camila, Julian, and Analucia. She is also survived by her brothers, Alfredo "Junior" Maldonado and wife Wanda, Hector "Rollo" Maldonado and wife Olinda of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Michael, who continues to shine his light on the entire family.
Carmen lived her formative years in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and had the opportunity to travel throughout Latin America due to her father’s work as a US diplomat in the field of agronomy. After completing her college course work at Puerto Rico Junior College she moved to Bronx, NY in the early 1960s in search for a better opportunity. It was in New York, that she married and had her three children. She moved to Lawrence, MA in 1974 with her young family. With a fresh start in Lawrence, she focused on raising her three children, instilling the importance of her catholic faith, love of family and education. Simultaneously, she became a fierce advocate for children through her work for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Social Services for more than 30 years. Outside of her work as a social worker, she lived her life with intentionality serving Jesus Christ and those in need. Through the years, she was a member of Cursillos in Christianity, an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and led many prayer retreats and meetings. She passed on her love of faith in God to her children and most recently was a parishioner of St. James Parish in Haverhill. There is no doubt that we were all blessed having her alongside us as she guided us here on earth and will continue to keep her in our hearts for as long as we live.
