Carmelina Laura Messina

Carmelina L. (Giuffrida) Messina of Methuen passed away at the Elizabeth Evarts de Rham Hospice Home in Cambridge, MA, on Friday, December 22, 2018, with her loving family at her side. The cherished wife of the late Carmelo J. Messina, she was 92 years of age.

Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, Carmelina (“Millie”) was one of four siblings, born to the late Francesco and Gaetana (Caponetto) Giuffrida. She and Carmelo met while growing up together in the same neighborhood in Lawrence. Later on, they proudly raised three children together: Anthony, Frank, and Mary.

Carmelina loved to play cards and Bingo. In addition, she enjoyed her trips to Italy and Canada and sitting by the ocean. A strong-willed and proud woman, Carmelina will always be remembered for being very passionate about her family and caring very deeply for them.

In addition to her parents, Francesco and Gaetana, and her husband, Carmelo, Carmelina was pre-deceased by her daughter, Mary Messina; and her siblings, Lorenzo, Simone, and Santa “Sally” Giuffrida.

Carmelina is lovingly survived by her sons, Anthony Messina, and his wife Frances Hagopian of Belmont, and Frank Messina, and his wife Linnea Johnson of Logan, UT; grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael, Daniel, and Peter Messina; and niece, Mary Noonan.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 11:00 AM in Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen, MA. Interment will follow at Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence.
