Carmela T. "Snookie" Savastano, 91, of Methuen, passed away at Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen on Friday, March 1, 2019.
Born and raised in Lawrence, Carmela was one of ten siblings born to the late Crescenzo and Christina (Miele) Savastano. She attended Lawrence Public Schools and graduated from Lawrence High School and Fazio Institute of Beauty and Culture on Essex Street in Lawrence.
Carmela had a passion for ceramics and crocheting. In addition, she loved to travel internationally. She was a committee member of the St. Rita Sodality and was employed in the family catering and restaurant business on Elm Street in Lawrence until the closing in 1979. Carmela will always be remembered for being a woman of deep faith and will be truly missed by those who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Carmela was pre-deceased by her sisters, Lucy Zompa, Julia Messina, Florence Grande, Anne Muraca, Rita Piccirillo, and her brothers, Ralph and Harry Savastano.
Carmela is lovingly survived by her siblings, Tommasina Grillo of Plaistow, NH and Modestina Ferraro of Methuen; her niece and caretaker, Mary Lou Nichols, and many other loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex Street in Lawrence. Interment will take place at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carmela’s honor to St. Rita’s Sodality of Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex Street, Lawrence, MA 01840.
