Brian Andrew Miller, 71, of Methuen, MA, passed away on November 15, 2021, at Lawrence General Hospital. Born on January 22, 1950, he was the son of the late Harold and Rose (Narushef) Miller.
A kind and thoughtful man, Brian enjoyed helping others even though he had limited abilities. He always checked in with his life-long friend and neighbor, Mrs. Swan, and would bring her mail in to her and watch Mass. He also visited his friend Neil and his mom with whom he was very fond. Brian enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to classic rock music. You could find him watching the Three Stooges marathons, cartoons, Patriots and Red Sox games.
Brian found freedom from his disabilities while riding his lawn mower and cutting grass. He often mowed his lawn, and would also take care of his neighbor’s lawns from time to time. His daily destination was the Howe Street Superette, where he would strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone. He considered every person he met a friend. He enjoyed buying scratch tickets and tried his luck, but never hit the jackpot.
Several years ago on a December morning, Brian was struck while walking and suffered serious injuries, this incident brought him Tom, a very important person in his life. He returned home after months in Boston hospitals and rehabilitation centers, and was finally able to walk to his beloved store and share his story. Brian was a local celebrity, he made the most of everyday and never got saddened about what life gave him. Even with all of the shortcomings and struggles he endured, he will be remembered by many as a fixture on Howe Street who cannot be replaced.
Along with his parents, Brian is pre-deceased by his siblings, William Miller, Harold H. Miller, and Winifred Knowlton.
Brian will be deeply missed and is survived by his sister, Barbara Pica, of Franklin, NH; nieces and nephews, Karen Gauthier of Hampstead, NH, Terry Kozdra of Derry, NH, Pam Braseth of Idaho, Harold J. Miller of Methuen, MA, Todd Pica of Alexandria, NH, Herbert Nightingale-Pica of Fall River, MA, and William Knowlton of Haverhill, MA.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Elmwood Cemetery, 130 North Lowell Street in Methuen.
