Bernadette T. Tiani

Bernadette Tiani, 91, of Methuen, MA passed away peacefully, with her daughters by her side, Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Merrimack Valley Health Center in Amesbury, MA.

Mrs. Tiani was born in Granger, TX and was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Ludmila Marek. She was educated in Texas and graduated from Cal-Allen High School in Corpus Christi. Traveling with the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority brought her to Missouri, where she met her future husband, Carl E. Tiani, Sr. They married and started their family in Missouri and in 1970 they returned to the Merrimack Valley where their youngest son was born.

Bernadette returned to school and became an LPN at the age of 46 while raising her family. For many years she cared for elder patients with compassion and kindness with her big Texas smile.

Most recently, she was a member of the Brandeis Chapel in Waltham. She had also been an active member of Our Lady Help of Christians parish in Newton, MA navigating Route 128 for Sunday Mass for many years. After Mass, she would stop for Texas barbecue to share with her family. During that time she participated in many church committees and activities. Her involvement with the Foster Grandparent Program at the Timony Grammar School, allowed her to connect with young students of that time.

In her spare time, Bernadette enjoyed painting, crocheting, dining out, gardening, and even explored modeling as a senior. Her international travel with family and church groups, brought her great pleasure and a broader understanding of other cultures and ideas. She was always up for an adventure with her camera at her side. She enjoyed a challenging political debate and followed world events and was interested in making the world a better place for her grandchildren. Ultimately, spending time with her family brought her the most joy and happiness.

Bernadette was predeceased by her husband Carl E. Tiani, Sr., sister-in-law, Mary Remeis; sisters, Martha, Lillie, Stacy, Annie, and Agnes; and her brothers, Charles B., Richard, Adolf, William, and Raymond.

She is survived by her four children, Teresa Tiani Cox and husband Paul, of Haverhill, Carol Tiani of Methuen, Carl Tiani, Jr. and wife Belem of Parkland, FL, and John Tiani and wife Carrie of Hull, MA; sister-in-law Rita De Rosa of Valley Cottage, NY; brother-in-law, Walter Remeis of Boise, ID. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Texas, and throughout the country who love her dearly and who will miss her very much. Her family would like to acknowledge her niece Dorothy in Texas, for her continuous love and support and for keeping our mother and us connected to her Texas family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Theresa Church, 22 Plymouth Street in Methuen. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to a charity of choice.
