Tribute

Beatrice E. (Russell) Longo, 93, a resident of Lawrence, Mass., passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover, Mass.

Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Beatrice was one of seven children and it was there that she learned the importance of family. Beatrice loved dancing and it was at a dance in Brisbane during World War II that she met and fell in love with a handsome U.S. Navy officer. Beatrice and Eugene were married at Holy Rosary Church on Christmas Day in 1946. As a “war bride”, Beatrice was a quick study and excelled at learning to cook Italian foods. Dancing continued to be important throughout her marriage and several times a week, she would go ballroom dancing with Eugene and friends. Beatrice was fortunate to enjoy several extensive trips back home to Australia and to many other countries in Europe. For most of her life she worked outside of the home but later in life, besides caring for her family, she enjoyed her hobbies of sewing, knitting and crocheting. She loved to share her creations with family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, aides and therapists at Prescott House for all the care and kindness that Beatrice received, particularly during the pandemic this past year.

Beatrice was the beloved wife to the late Dr. Eugene J. Longo with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. She was the loving mother to Joyce E. Lombardi and her husband James of East Longmeadow, Mass., Barbara Eddy and her husband Earl of Dracut, Mass. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Robyn Donovan of Hanson, Mass.; Kristopher Young of Norwell, Mass.; Colleen Curtice of South Lake Tahoe, CA., Carolyn Eddy of Dracut, Mass., 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Beatrice is survived by a sister, Joan Swyny of Warana, QLD. Australia.

Due to the current pandemic, visitation and burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to your favorite charity. Arrangements are by Cataudella Funeral Home, Methuen.
