Astrid Santiago

Astrid Santiago, 32 passed away June 8, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House with her family by her side. She was born February 11, 1986 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Her family moved to Lawrence when Astrid was five years old. She was raised and educated in Lawrence and then relocated to Methuen in 2007.

Despite all her medical challenges, Astrid loved to be around people and always had a beautiful smile for everyone. She was the most caring person and always watched over everyone, especially her mom Reina, her best friend with whom she had an incredible closeness and endearing love. Her mother was the center of her life. She loved spending time with her lifelong special friend, Julie Lago and her little Tess who loved her “Auntie Astrid.” She loved music, especially the guitar, purple was her favorite color and she loved butterflies, which she had all over her room. She loved her cat, Lucky and enjoyed having him sleep with her on the end of her bed. She always looked forward to her coloring time with her friend Connie Coursol. She was the # 1 fan of the Boston Red Sox.
   
Astrid loved her PCAs who helped her mom care for her and she appreciated every day as a gift. Her illness never got her down and she was an amazing miracle to have had Mitochondrial Disease and lived to the age of thirty-two. She taught so many with her courage, strength, and determination to live the best possible life she could. She was our angel here on earth and she is now our angel in heaven.

She was predeceased by her younger brother, Ronny; her younger sister, Ingrid; and her maternal grandmother, Mercedes Alvarado.

Besides her mother, Reina Torres, Astrid leaves behind many loved ones including her aunts and uncles, cousins, and Randy MacDougall.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful people from Care Dimensions and the staff at Kaplan Hospice House for all their amazing support and care throughout this difficult time.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 9AM to 11am at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Funeral services will follow at the conclusion of visiting hours at 11:00AM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kaplan Family Hospice House.
