Armand P. Cocchiaro, 96, of Salem, NH passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018. Born in Methuen, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Carmela (Cortese) Cocchiaro.
Armand was a graduate of Searles High School and also attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He owned and operated Lawrence Building Wrecking Company for over forty years and retired in the 1980s.
During WWII, Armand served in the Navy as a CB, second class petty officer in the Solomon Islands and Guam. He was a member of the Salem V.F.W. and also a Past Exalted Ruler of Derry-Salem Elks Lodge 2226. He was an avid sportsman and loved all the local Boston teams. Armand excelled in Duck and Candlepin bowling and was well known in the Merrimack Valley area. He also enjoyed playing cards and gardening.
He was predeceased by his wife, Agatha “Ida” (Pappalardo) Cocchiaro; his daughter, Cynthia (Cocchiaro) Henderson, as well as seven siblings. Most of all, Armand was all about family and doing for others.
Armand is survived by his daughter, Maureen Cocchiaro of Salem, NH; grandchildren, Adam Henderson of RI, Thomas Henderson and his companion Jessica Connolly of Attleboro, MA, and Taylor Henderson of Grafton, MA; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Layla and Charlotte and his son-in-law, Michael Henderson of Worcester. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral mass will be at 10:30am on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 200 Lawrence Rd., Salem, NH. Burial will be at Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Unit, Mary Immaculate Nursing Home, 172 Lawrence St., Lawrence, MA 01841 or St. Joseph’s Regional Catholic School, 40 Main St., Salem, NH 03079.
