Anthony Joseph Matteo, 86, of Methuen, MA, peacefully passed away on December 29, 2020, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after an illness. Born on November, 8, 1934, in Lawrence, MA, he was the youngest son of the late Pasquale and Mary (Sarcione) Matteo.

At age eighteen, Anthony joined the United States Air Force and fought in the Korean War. When he left, he married the love of his life, Shirley (Adams) Matteo, and they started their family together. Anthony worked as a construction supervisor and enjoyed wood working and helping his family with their home projects. He loved to watch football and baseball, and looked forward to travelling with his wife to Pennsylvania, where they would visit Amish country and Hershey Park. Anthony also looked forward to trips to New Jersey, especially for the yearly Labor Day party and to visit his sister, nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Anthony is pre-deceased by his wife, Shirley (Adams) Matteo; his son, Anthony (lil Anthony) Matteo; siblings, Pasquale (Pat) Matteo, Elizabeth Vanhorn, Dorothy Farmer, May Garvin, and Ida Blanchard.

Anthony will be deeply missed and is survived by his children, Sherry Andrews and her husband Rick of New Bern, NC, Anthony “AJ” Matteo Jr., and his wife Phyllis of Plaistow, NH, and Patrick “Ricky”Matteo and his wife Lorraine, of Methuen; as well as his sister, Concetta “Connie” Doyle of New Jersey; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 5, 2020 at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow at St Mary. Immaculate Conception cemetery in Lawrence, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
