Anne R. (Messina) Calderone, RN, 99, of Methuen passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Vincenzina (Valvo) Messina.
Mrs. Calderone was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1936 and St. John School of Nursing in Lowell, class of 1939. She worked staff and private duty at local hospitals and also worked for Dr. Nicandro DeCesare formerly of Jackson St., Lawrence until she retired in 1948.
Mrs. Calderone was a member of St. Rita’s Sodality, St. John’s Nurses Alumni, and the Methuen Senior Citizens Center. She loved music, reading, and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Ovid “Cal” Calderone and her siblings, Joseph Messina and Sarah Macarione.
Mrs. Calderone is survived by her son, Dennis Calderone and his fiancé Ginny Chaikin of Salem, NH; daughter, Paula May Casey and her husband Paul of Salem, NH; grandchildren, Michael Calderone and his wife Renata, Kimberly Ouellette and her husband Ryan, Shawn and Ryan Casey; great-grandchildren, Juliana, Gabriela, Madison, Emily, and Nathan. She also leaves many dear nieces and nephews.
The Calderone and Casey families would like to express their appreciation and sincere thanks to Merrimack Valley Hospice for their tremendous care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.
