Tribute

Angelina (Guglielmino) Leate-Mazza, 92, a lifelong resident of Lawrence, MA, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in the comfort of her home. She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose (Cristaldi) Guglielmino.

Born and raised in Lawrence, Angelina attended Lawrence High School. Soon after she began working for various retail businesses as a secretary, as a line worker in various Lawrence textile mills, and in the cafeteria of Andover Phillips Academy. She met her first husband, George Leate, at the age of 18, and the couple was married in 1945. Angelina and George enjoyed trips to Florida, weekend get always to the White Mountains, and taking their grandchildren to local area events until George’s death in 1984. Angelina met her second husband, Paul Mazza, in 1985, and the two were married in 1986. She and Paul were married until his death in 2014. Following her retirement, Angelina spent many years caring for her grandchildren.

Paul and Angelina enjoyed their home together in south Lawrence. They enjoyed gardening, at one point caring for over 200 tomato plants, making and canning homemade tomato sauce, cooking daily noontime meals, and enjoying trips to the beach – Rye Beach in particular.

Angelina’s other hobbies included talking to her family and friends on the telephone for hours, reading the Lawrence Eagle Tribune daily for most of her life, and watching television. She especially enjoyed watching the soap opera, General Hospital. Angelina was also an animal lover. She owned and cared for numerous cats over the years. Angelina also enjoyed traveling, and made many trips to Sicily to visit family members.

Angelina is survived by her son, George W. Leate and his wife Kathleen of Kingston, NH; grandchildren, Shannon Leate-Varney of Kingston and Joshua Leate and his wife Johanna of Bradford, MA; great-grandchildren, Justin, Mary Kate, and Lauren Varney, and Grace and Harrison Leate; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to being predeceased by her parents and her husbands, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Philip Guglielmino and Angelo Guglielmino; her sisters-in-law, Eleanor Guglielmino, Rita Torrico, and Helen Bailey; as well as numerous cousins and close friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 5:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Angelina’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
