Alphonse A. Sammataro
August 6, 1928 ~ November 22, 2022 (age 94) 94 Years Old
Alphonse A. Sammataro, 94, of North Andover, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Bedford Veterans Hospital. He was the husband of Rita (Piccirillo) Sammataro, with whom he shared sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, the son of the late Dominico and Nicolina (DeRienzo) Sammataro, Alphonse was a graduate of Lawrence High School. Following High School, he attended Merrimack College. Soon after, Alphonse enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served in the Korean Conflict. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1952, he settled in Lawrence. Following his military service, Alphonse began to work at Raytheon, retiring as an inspector.
In 1953, Alphonse married his sweetheart, Rita, and the couple continued to live in Lawrence until 1962, at which time they moved to North Andover and raised their children.
Alphonse enjoyed working with electronics, so much so that prior to his entry into the military, he owned and operated an electronic/radio shop on Summer Street in Lawrence. In his free time, he enjoyed antiquing. After his retirement, Alphonse dedicated much of his time volunteering at St. Mary Immaculate Nursing Home. Having his family and friends by his side meant the world to him. He was most happy when his house was full, whether it was as a social event or if it was a Sunday family get together or for a holiday. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
Alphonse was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Marie Porter and his brother Jack Sammarato. In addition to his wife, Rita, he is survived by his son Robert Sammataro and his wife Nina of Windham, NH, daughter Nancy Jutras and her husband Paul of Salem, NH; grandchildren Amber Porter-Tantawi, Danielle Jutras; great grandchildren Ahlim Tantawi, Nara Tantawi; son-in-law Kenny Porter; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alphonse’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 or online at www.alz.org
