William S. Powell, 76, of Andover, formerly of Lawrence, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 after a long illness at the Wingate in Andover. Bill was born in Annapolis, MD, the son of the late Hudson and M. Lucille (Provencher) Powell.
Bill spent much of his youth in Lawrence, graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1959, and Merrimack College in 1963. He had a varied professional life starting out as a teacher and ending as an attorney. He always tried to help those whom he saw as weak and defenseless.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved son, Danny.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Powell; daughter, Jennifer Covell and her husband Jonathan; grandchildren, Tyler and Mackenzie and many cousins including Bill Provencher who cared for him in the last years of his life.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral mass at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Church, 20 Highvale Ln., Andover. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. By the request of the family there will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by Cataudella Funeral Home, Methuen.
