Shirley C. (Pettinelli) Cappello, 86, of Methuen passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Nevins Nursing Home. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of Ralph and Camille (Cellemare) Pettinelli.
Shirley was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1949. She worked for many years in the catering and food service industry and also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Zanfagna.
One of Shirley’s most enjoyable activities throughout the years was participating in the flea market circuit where she had a lot of fun meeting new people.
Shirley faced many challenges throughout her life, yet her determination, strength, and resilience allowed her to meet all of them. She had much to be thankful for; she had many, many close friends throughout the years, friends who brought her joy, laughter and happiness. Her good friends from Park Gardens were loved and cherished, especially her good friends Helen Giarusso and the late Linda Giarusso. Shirley also had a great friend in Lorraine DeSimone, whose two sons, Robbie and Jamie, considered Shirley as their second mother. She also enjoyed Foxwoods so much that she would organize trips for the residents of Park Gardens.
The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Hospice and Nevins Nursing for their loving and gentle care shown to Shirley and her family.
Shirley was predeceased by her son, John Cappello, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie Cappello of Salisbury; brothers, Ralph and Vincent Pettinelli both of Methuen and a sister, Joyce Simione of Windham, NH.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
