Patrick J. "Buddy" Vallera, age 87, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Holy Family Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of Gloria (Bolduc) Vallera for fifty-two years.
Born in Lowell, Pat was the son of the late Pacifico and Catherine (Pallotto) Vallera.
He was educated in Dracut schools and graduated from Dracut High, class of 1948.
He served thirteen months in Vietnam as a Seabee attached to MCB12 - Da Nang. He continued his military career, serving a total of twenty-five years as a decorated National Guardsman attached to the 26th Yankee Infantry Division.
Pat was employed many years as a heavy equipment operator with Dematteo Construction Company. He was later employed for twenty years at the US Army R, D & E Center attached to the Engineering & Housing Division. He retired in 1994.
Pat was a Fourth Degree Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member of the DAV, a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, the MCB-12 Seabee Association, and the VFW 8349.
In addition to his wife, Pat is survived by his sons, Anthony of Garner, NC, Patrick of Salem, NH, Timothy of Gloucester, Peter of Methuen; a daughter Susan Vallera of Methuen; grandchildren, Brad Tardugno and his wife Meredith of Kingston, NH and Evan Vallera and his wife Kaitlyn of Reading, MA; great-grandchildren, Carter and Alexis Vallera of Reading, MA; sister, Margaret Metz and her husband James of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law, Jeffrey Crocker; and many nephews and nieces.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved daughter, Cindy (Vallera)Crocker; his brother, Phillip; and his sisters, Anna Louise Sibiga, and Catherine Vallera.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Our Lady of Good Counsel/St. Theresa Church, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen.
