Leda M. (Guarrera) Ciccarelli, 85, of Topsfield passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Masconomet Healthcare Center. Born in Caserta, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Antonietta (Ottaviano) Guarrera.
Leda was raised in Caserta, Italy, educated in Naples, and married in Rome in 1958 after meeting a University of Naples medical student. In 1959 Leda and her new husband Richard settled in the Tower Hill section of Lawrence. She raised three children and saw them off to college. Being a lover of music, arts and literature, Leda decided to go back to college herself. She attended Merrimack college in the late 80’s and graduated at the top of her class. Leda had a passion for sports and was a member of the first ever girls basketball team in her small hometown of Caserta, Italy. She lovingly passed her passions of sports and the arts to her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Elena, Maria, Alfonso, Arnaldo, Ugo, and Elio, and her daughter-in-law, Patricia (McCann) Ciccarelli.
Leda is survived by her husband, former Lawrence pediatrician, Dr. Richard F. Ciccarelli, MD; sons, Richard V. and his wife Gabriella of CA and Mark H. and his wife Suzanne of Topsfield; daughter, Denise M. Osborn of CA; sister, Velia Zanninelli of Rome; grandchildren, Brenna, Caroline, Lauren, Olivia, Taylor, Natalie, Sophia, Olaya, and Mark; step-grandchildren, Amber, Carter and Tucker. Leda also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, January 2, 2017 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Private funeral services will be held after visiting hours. Burial will be at a later date in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
