Josephine A. Carelli

Josephine A. (Sapuppo) Carelli, 76, of Methuen passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose (Saracusa) Sapuppo.

Mrs. Carelli was a graduate of Tenney High School, Methuen, and the Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing, where she worked for several years. She also worked at area nursing homes and ended her career as a school nurse. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Methuen Senior Center and St. Lucy’s Sodality, and she volunteered her time at the Holy Family Hospital Gift Shop.

She was a compassionate and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Before she became ill, she enjoyed gardening, line dancing, going on day trips, and attending any events that her children or grandchildren were involved in. She looked forward to the weekly Sunday dinners when the entire family would gather together for a meal, card games, and to hear about everyone’s week.

Mrs. Carelli was predeceased by her husband, Anthony J. Carelli and her sister, Lucy Sapuppo. She is survived by her children, Lucia Sholds of Methuen, Debra Carelli of Haverhill, Anthony S. Carelli of Salem, NH, Maria Carelli of Methuen and Julia Marciello and her husband Gary of Salem, NH; grandchildren, Taylor and Nicholas Carelli and Shannon and Allison Sholds; sisters, Angela Blatti and her husband Charles of Methuen, and Rosemary Arcidiacono and her husband Charles of Rye, NH.  She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.  Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen.  Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.  For directions or to send condolences please visit www.cataudellafh.com.
