Elena M. Aufiero

Elena M. (Lombardi) Aufiero, 95, of Methuen passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Prescott House in North Andover. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Leonardo and Assunta (Montanaro) Lombardi.

Elena was raised and educated in Lawrence. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School. In her early thirties she was impacted by Guillain–Barré syndrome, a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. While this stopped her from working at the shoe mill in Lawrence, she did continue with a very active family and social life. Elena loved traveling, crocheting, especially making prayer shawls for the church, cooking traditional Italian meals, and mostly enjoyed spending time with her family. Being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren is what made her most happy.

Mrs. Aufiero was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church where she was a member of the St. Rita’s Sodality.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Paschal “Pat” Aufiero with whom she shared sixty years of marriage; brothers, John and James Lombardi; and sister, Teresa Costanzo.

Elena is survived by her two sons, Richard Aufiero and his wife, Alice of Andover, and Ron Aufiero and his wife, Kathy of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Michael Aufiero and his wife, DJ of Newtown Square, PA, Thomas Aufiero of Chelmsford, Kevin Aufiero of Andover, Nicholas Aufiero of Denver, CO, and Lindsey Aufiero of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Aufiero of Newtown Square, PA. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 3:30-7:30 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Elena’s memory to Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church or the St. Rita’s Sodality c/o Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St. Lawrence, MA 01840.
