Ann L. Scalera, 95, of North Andover, formerly of Methuen, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Prescott House in North Andover. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Gerolama “Geraldine” (Spicuzza) DiBenedetto.
Ann was raised and educated in Lawrence, and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1940. She attended hair dressing school, eventually owning and running her own hair salon with her friend, Marion Bell. After her hair dressing career ended, she next worked as a supervisor for the IRS, eventually retiring in 1983, after many years of dedicated service.
Ann was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, dedicated to her family. She had a passion for reading, was a wonderful cook, and had boundless energy that would put many younger people to shame. She was a woman who cared more about others than herself, always there to offer a helping hand or words of wisdom. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Ann’s family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, the nursing aides, and staff at Prescott House for their compassion and care during her time there. Thank you to the Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care team whose loving care helped to comfort Ann during her end of life process, and to those students of the Greater Lawrence Technical School in North Andover enrolled in the Health Care Career Department and their instructor who brought my mother joy and love and with their daily visits of loving care, concern, and laughter.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of sixty-one years, Raymond D. Scalera. Ann is survived by her daughter, Paula Cross and her husband, Eugene of Westford; her grandchildren, Alexander Cross of Chicago, IL and Stephanie Cross of Dallas, TX; her brother, James DiBenedetto; as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 8:30-10:30 am at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her funeral mass will follow at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
